I re-financed my home through my bank, and it wasn't that bad. Sure, it took some time, but I was in no hurry. I think that's the difference. If you can wait, the banks will give you a lower rate. If you can't, private lending could be a way to go.

I got a loan from a private lender, and it was a much better experience than I had with my bank. I used a broker because I didn't know how to do it by myself. It cost more but I had my loan fast. I'd do it

Private lenders are gaining respect in the industry because they'e coming down their rates and their terms. It's something they have to do if they want to compete.

In terms of the speed of the loan closing, having a broker in the deal does not necessarily mean it will be slower. Sometimes, in fact, having a broker who knows what he's doing can actually speed up the process, as opposed to going in by your lonesome. Especially if the broker and lender have worked together successfully in the past.

Listen to Codeman. Brokers can help you every step of the way. With a broker working for you, your participation is needed less and less. That's what brokers are for. They get their precentage, they help you get your loan, everyone's happy. Unless you're a do-it-yourselfer and just enjoy that kind of endless interaction.

Mason's right (Hi, Mace). Brokers can smooth the road. They have the contacts, the experience, and the knowledge. Use them. Their fee is negligible. And they'll speed things up considerably. Good investment.

Don't know what I would've done without one. She made the whole process quick, easy, and understandable. I can't say enough about a good broker.

Anything that makes the process easier is a good thing. You can try and do it yourself, but unless you're experienced, it can be daunting. For brokers, it's pretty much a cake walk. They deserve their commission. Use them.
